World of Birds

On the way back from our excursion today we stopped at World of Birds, a bird and animal sanctuary. They boast over 3,000 different species of birds and I for one believe them. It was quite something.

Not a bird but a mongoose and quite an entertaining little chap. He wasn't being aggressive in this shot, more like sleepy.

Lovely Golden Pheasant

This is my favorite African bird, the Secretary Bird.

There were loads of owls, many in open enclosures and quite close as you walked by.

This is a fat meerkat.

An this a bat eared fox.

A Rock Hydrax or "dassie" with quite an overbite. These little critters are most closely related to the elephant.

Foggy/overcast day

Today we decided to head down the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula. It was, cold, cloudy, foggy and a generally blustery day, but that didn't stop us. Even with the gloom, there was a certain beauty.

Sunset Catamaran ride

Tonight we did a sunset catamaran ride. It was so much fun. We started out on the bow, but as it was quite windy and therefore quite rough, we pretty quickly got drenched and moved to the back. What fun!

Two Oceans Aquarium

One of the highlights of Cape Town is their very cool Aquarium, the Two Oceans Aquarium (http://www.aquarium.co.za/). We spent a whole afternoon exploring, but to be honest, the Baltimore Aquarium is way better.

Lucas "in" the clown fish tank.

This was the biggest moray eel I have ever seen!

This little guy looked pretty miserable, molting.

This was the saddest little guy... just staring out the window.

Victoria and Albert Waterfront

Today we moved to our rented apartment on the Victoria and Albert Waterfront (V&A Waterfront). The apartment is perfect, two bedrooms, two baths, nicely appointed kitchen, living/dining combo, and a nice balcony overlooking a canal. Best of all it is walking distance to the V&A Waterfront.

After leaving the Colona Castle after breakfast we arrived a bit too early and had to wait for our apartment to be cleaned and readied. Off to the Waterfront to see what we were in for. Thankfully it was a clear and beautiful day!

First order of business, get an idea of where we are so off to the ferris wheel.

Charlotte loved the ferris wheel.

Lucas, not so much.

Aside from all the touristy stuff, hotels, restaurants, shopping, the V&A Waterfront is a working harbor. This ship is being refurbished.

A view of Table Mountain at sunset.

A little sea bird who wanted to join us for dinner.

Simon's Town

Because we did a whole lotta sight seeing and all the kids really wanted to do was play at the beach on the way back from our Cape Point/Cape of Good Hope adventure we stopped at a little beach in Simon's Town and let the kids have fun. For dinner we ate at "Live Bait" in Kalk Bay, another picturesque seaside town on False Bay. It was wonderful...

Table Mountain National Park

As we were leaving the Cape Point/Cape of Good Hope area of the Table Mountain National Park, we took a couple of the side roads and found some lesser explored areas.
