Hammond Ranch, Sava Valley, Lowveld
This was the first time we ever stayed at a real "hunting" lodge and while the accommodations were great, the staff very friendly and food some of the best we have had, it had a different feeling than the animal friendly national parks. During the game drives the animals were very very wary (as well they should be) and quite difficult to spot.
On the upside the countryside was beautiful... dotted with my all time favorite African tree the Baobab. Our last evening at the ranch we hiked up to one of the high points and watched a spectacular sunset. Zimbabwe is an amazingly beautiful country. Shame it is as it is.
A beautiful Baobob tree.
A sting of unbelievable sunset shots... all taken within minutes of each other.
A view out over the whole Hammond Ranch.
Charlotte and Lucas with our guide Fabien.
An ancient Baobob tree, Fabien claimed that it was about 300 years old.
The old Baobob, called the "hollow" tree because, well, it is hollow.
One of the, no doubt, many residents in the old tree.
